Highway police has made special arrangement including listing the numbers of local garage mechanics for quick repair of vehicles on the road to make the Eid journey smooth and comfortable.
“If these mechanics fix the damaged vehicles quickly through the police, traffic will be normal on the road,” Highway Police Chief Additional IGP AKM Shahabuddin Khan told reporters on Wednesday afternoon after conducting a road inspection on Nabinagar-Chandra Highway in Ashulia.
Referring to the special arrangement, he said that there are garages in the markets along the highways. A list has been made by collecting the number of mechanics there. As vehicles break down in the middle of the road.
Dhaka Tribune“We have taken measures so that the vehicles can be repaired quickly by the mechanic,” Shahabuddin added.
He expressed hope that the Eid journey will be eased this time though the pressure on Savar Road will increase after the eid holiday at garments factories starts.
Dhaka Tribune"Overall, traffic is normal in all the places I visited today (Wednesday). There is some relief among the public. But there may be light pressure this afternoon and tomorrow. But we have heavy deployments. Hopefully, commuters can reach their destinations safely now. We hope this Eid journey will be much more comfortable and safe," he also added.
He further said: "We have identified areas in different places of five highways and regional roads. Coordination has been done in all those places. Especially the number of highway police patrols has been increased. Surveillance has been increased by installing sub-controls and controls at different places. Our ambulances and wreckers are also kept ready."
Dhaka TribuneBesides, the highway police chief urged the transport drivers, staff and common passengers to be more aware to ensure a smooth Eid journey.
Highway Police DIG Mahfuzur Rahman, Additional DIG Barkat Ullah Khan, Additional DIG Shyamal Kumar Mukherjee and Police Superintendent of Gazipur Region Mustafizur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka District North Traffic Police Abdullah Hill Kafi and senior police officers were present.
