Several fire incidents were reported on Monday in different parts of the country, including two in the capital.
No casualty was reported in the fires.
A fire that broke out at BGB Market in Dhaka's Uttara area was doused after a one-hour frantic effort by firefighters.
Two units of Fire Service and Civil Defence managed to bring the blaze under control at around 11:10am, said duty officer Rozina Akhter. The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
An official at Uttara (West) police station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told Dhaka Tribune that the fire originated from a shop called SA Light House and AC Center located in the BGB tin-shed market. Within a few moments, the fire spread to nearly four or five neighboring shops.
Later in the afternoon, another fire incident was reported on the second floor of a jewellery market adjacent to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka.
The shopkeepers managed to douse the flame before the Fire Service units reached the scene.
Duty officer Rozina Akhter of the fire service said the fire broke out at 2:52pm and three firefighting units were dispatched upon receiving the news. “However, the fire was brought under control before they arrived,” she said.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal Monday said that an investigation committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs is looking into whether the frequent incidents of fire are political sabotage.
The minister said that the nine-member investigation committee led by Md Saiful Islam, additional secretary of the Security Services Division, will submit its report soon.
He said: “The probe committee is getting information about the involvement of people of a particular political party.” However, the minister did not mention any specific political party's name.
On the other hand, the Fire Service formed a five-member committee to probe a fire that broke out at the Dhaka New Supermarket on Saturday morning.
Headed by Md Wahidul Islam, director (administration and Finance) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, the committee has been asked to submit its report within five working days.
Earlier, the Dhaka South City Corporation formed a nine-member committee to investigate the reason behind the blaze that razed over 200 shops.
Fire incidents in Narayanganj, Sylhet, Rangpur
Meanwhile, another fire was reported at a pharmaceutical factory in Maikuli village of Rupshi area under Narayanganj's Rupganj on Monday afternoon.
The fire broke out at the factory of Orion Infusion Ltd around 12:45pm. On receiving information, two fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at 1.48pm.
In Sylhet, firefighters of South Surma Fire Service Station extinguished a fire that broke out at Kadamtali fruit market on Monday afternoon.
South Surma Fire Service Station's Officer Alauddin Monir said the fire broke out at around 12:30pm and upon receiving the news, they immediately rushed to the spot.
“After about one and a half hours of frantic effort, the fire was brought under control at 1:55pm,” said the officer.
In Rangpur, a fire broke out at Moti Plaza Market in the city at around 3:30pm on Monday.
Eight units of Fire Service and Civil Defence fought the fire and brought it under control, Fire Service Control Room officer Shahidul Islam said.
