Parents demand cancellation of directive to hold Mongol Shobhajatra at educational institutes

Children are also fasting during Ramadan and it will be difficult to go out due to the ongoing heatwave, they said at a human chain

The parents of some schoolchildren have formed a human chain demanding cancellation of a government directive asking all the educational institutions across Bangladesh to hold Mongol Shobhajatra as part of Pohela Boishakh celebrations.

They formed the human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday under the banner of “Sacheton Obhibabok Mahal.”

The parents said that in this holy month of Ramadan, it will be very difficult to go out as a heatwave is sweeping across the country.

They requested the government to cancel the decision considering the weather.

The parents said that children and teenagers are also fasting during the month of Ramadan. At the same time, a heatwave is prevailing across the country, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius. It is very difficult to go out because of it. Therefore, doctors have asked children and the elderly to be careful in this intense heat.

But surprisingly, the education ministry directed educational institutions across Bangladesh to incorporate Mongol Shobhajatra in Pohela Boishakh celebrations.

The decision is very irresponsible, they claimed.

The ministry said educational institutions must celebrate the Bangla New Year in a festive atmosphere under their own management on Friday.

Educational institutions also have to include students in Mongol Shobhajatra, a mass procession that takes place at dawn on the first day of the Bangla New Year in Bangladesh.

The Ministry of Education asked the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the Directorate of Technical Education, and the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board to take necessary measures in line with the directives to celebrate the Bangla New Year 1430.
