Deputy Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Habibun Nahar on Sunday said that Bangladesh is moving forward in all directions under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made Bangladesh a role model in the world to combat climate change. She said that if the sea level rises due to climate change, many areas of the southern part of Bangladesh will go underwater. To prevent that kind of crisis, world leaders must work sincerely together,” said Habibun Nahar.
She made these remarks as a chief guest at a sustainable development goal (SDG) progress review and knowledge and experience exchange workshop at the ministry's conference room.
While presiding over the workshop, Secretary of the Ministry Dr Farhina Ahmed said that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is responsible for implementing a significant part of the SDGs in Bangladesh.
“By enforcing laws to control air and noise pollution in the country, the ministry is trying to ensure a comfortable livelihood and life for the general public,” she said.
Dr Farhina Ahmed urged the officers and employees of the ministry to work actively in the implementation of the SDGs to improve people's quality of life while combating limitations and challenges.
Prime Minister's Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs Md Akhter Hossain and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Director General Md Matiar Rahman spoke at the workshop as special guests.
Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Additional Secretary (Administration) Iqbal Abdullah Harun, SDG Focal Point and Joint Secretary (Development) Zakia Afroz, Joint Secretary (SDG Affairs) of Prime Minister's Office Mohd Monirul Islam and Deputy Secretary (Forest-2) of the ministry Dr Md Saifur Rahman spoke among others.
