Salman F Rahman, adviser on Private Industry and Investment to the prime minister, said that businessmen affected by the Bangabazar fire will be given the opportunity to do business temporarily before Eid to compensate for the loss to some extent.
He told this to reporters after visiting the area affected by the fire in the capital's Bangabazar on Thursday morning.
Bangla TribuneSalman F Rahman said: “As soon as possible this place will be cleaned and the shopkeepers will be seated. But there are some legal issues here. So, this place cannot be cleared before completing the legal process.”
“I will talk to the DG of fire service and the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation about this. Hopefully, it will clear in next three to four days,” he added.
Mentioning that the traders will be compensated in a few days, he said: “We have asked the owner association to make two lists – one for affected owners and another for affected traders. This list will be prepared by next Sunday.”
Bangla TribuneHe also said: “Many want to help the victims. That is why we have asked the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association to create a joint bank account with the owner's association of the affected market.”
“Once the account is created, we will publish the account number through various channels. Besides, cash and development number will also be given so that the sponsor can send money to those numbers and accounts,” he added.
Md Helal Uddin, president of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, expressed hope that traders will get the opportunity to operate shops temporarily from Saturday.
He said: “The prime minister's advisor on Private Industry and Investment Salman F Rahman called me a while ago and told me that this place will be cleaned tomorrow (Friday).”
