The relatives and colleagues of Sultana Jasmine, a union land office employee in Naogaon who recently died in RAB custody, have expressed shock at the Digital Security Act case filed against her over fraud.
On March 22, a day after RAB arrested Jasmine, a case was filed against her under the Digital Security Act at Rajpara police station in Rajshahi.
Enamul Haque, director, Local Government Department, Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's Office, filed the case against her on charges of fraud.
The case statement says Al Amin and Sultana Jasmine, residents of the Gazibari area under Haimchar police station in Chandpur, along with two-three unidentified persons, using the name and title of joint secretary Enamul Haque, opened a Facebook ID and took money by giving jobs to various people.
However, her relatives, neighbours and colleagues could not believe such accusations against Jasmine.
Sultana Jasmine's uncle and former councillor of Naogaon municipality Nazmul Haque Montu said: “My niece was a simple person. After parting with her husband, she had been raising her son by doing a small job. I often had to pay for her son's education. If she was involved in corruption, there would be no scarcity of money. I believe that a proper investigation will prove the allegations against her to be false.”
Sultana Jasmine's son Shahed Hossain Saikat did not agree to talk to anyone in this regard.
Her brother Sohag Mia said: “Everyone knows what happened to my sister. I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to file any case either. We have no demands.”
The 45-year-old died days after she was detained by the Rapid Action Battalion in Naogaon town on Wednesday. She died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on Friday morning.
She was an office assistant at the land office of Chandipur union of Naogaon Sadar upazila.
