Speakers at the event said that due to the adverse effects of climate change, shrimp farming and unplanned filling and encroachment of rivers and reservoirs, there has been an acute shortage of fresh water in coastal areas. Every day the demand for water is increasing but the quantity and source of fresh water is not increasing. Natural water source ponds, lakes, reservoirs, rivers, canals and streams are decreasing. In this regard, all concerned are urged to ensure proper management of participatory water resources and safe water supply.

They added that government needs to be called on to guarantee safe water, protect the natural environment and reduce water pollution, instead of turning water into a commodity through various programs across the country in order to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030.
