Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan announced on Wednesday that Bangladesh Railway would sell advance train tickets for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr through online platform only.
However, 25% of all the seats allocated in the luxury class (non-AC) would be sold from the usual standing ticket booth for the convenience of passengers during Eid after the sale of all seats on the intercity trains, said the minister in a press conference.
Currently, 5,00,000 individuals can buy tickets online, compared to 30,000-35,000 before, he added.
Train tickets will be sold from April 7, said the minister.
Tickets for trains on April 17 will be sold on April 7 and tickets for April 18, 19, 20 and 21 will be sold on April 8, 9, 10 and 11.
He also said that nine pairs of special trains will run on different routes to tackle passenger pressure during the Eid vacation.
All the trains will be available four days before the Eid-ul-Fitr and five days after Eid.
Meanwhile, Sholakia Eid Special 11 and 12 will run on Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj-Bhairab Bazar route and Sholakia Eid Special 13-14 will run on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh route on Eid day.
Nurul Islam Sujan also said that the international train ‘Mitali Express' will remain closed from April 18-27 and ‘Maitree Express' from April 20-27 during the Eid.
