Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's father was a member of the peace committee and a pro-Pakistani.

Even after independence, Mirza Fakhrul was in hiding for several days.

The minister told this to journalists at the end of a day-long workshop organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development in Dhaka on Monday.

He said: “They (BNP) can only set fires or fight with the police. That is why we are holding peace rallies to maintain peace in the country.”

Hasan Mahmud also said: “BNP has got election fever. It is very normal to get election panic because in the 2008 election, BNP participated in the election with all its strength. Only 29 out of 300 seats were won by them. Again, they boycotted the 2014 elections.

“BNP also knows their outcome in the elections. That is why they are not walking the path of election, rather they are walking the path of conspiracy. We want people to overcome fear and participate in the elections. Let there be a fair election with the participation of all parties; the government party will participate as well as the BNP,” he added.

“Only Awami League is the party practicing democracy in Bangladesh. This democracy has been organized in Bangladesh under the leadership of Awami League. BNP has no internal democracy,” he further added.

At this time, Hasan said that ensuring safe roads is essential since road accidents have become serious. Not only the driver but everyone is responsible. It is not possible to guarantee safe roads without everyone having to work together.

At the end of the discussion, certificates were handed over to the participating journalists.
