Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman has admitted the negligence in construction of the under-construction building of Atomic Energy Research Establishment that collapsed on Friday afternoon.
The incident will be investigated, said the minister on Saturday while inspecting the 10-storey building of the Atomic Energy Research Establishment in Dhaka's Savar.
Dhaka TribuneYeafesh Osman said: “Our officials who are involved in the work of this building will also be looked into.
“I will find out how much they were negligent in their work….It's basically the contractor's business, we have nothing here though. However, we will look into everything,” said the minister.
Yeafesh Osman said the incident is not a serious issue. There were some negligence of the part of the contractor. “After seeing the whole thing, I understand that there is some negligence.”
He also said that the decision they have made now is that the contractor will clean all the collapsed parts and work again.
The minister also directed the contractors to ensure that proper work is done next time, so that such incidents do not happen again.
Being asked, he said that a probe committee has been formed.
About the activities of the building, the minister said that it is a very important building. Research and training work will be done here along with a cancer hospital.
Dhaka Tribune“Earlier we used to provide tests for cancer only, but the disease will be diagnosed and treated here.”
The biggest thing is that the amount of money which people spend abroad for treatment will be reduced through this hospital, said Yeafesh Osman.
“And we're trying to do similar things in eight other places. As if we can provide this kind of treatment in the country,” further added the minister.
At least 15 construction workers were injured as the roof of an under-construction building of Savar Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) collapsed on Friday.
The incident took place in Ganakbari of the upazila at around 4pm on Friday
