Electronics Safety and Security Association of Bangladesh (ESSAB) has urged the construction of buildings following the rules of the fire service and the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk).
Incidents like the recent Gulistan blast will not happen again if buildings are constructed in accordance with the rules, members of the organization said at a human chain on the street in front of the blast-damaged building in Gulistan's Siddikbazar on Friday afternoon.
M Mahmudur Rashid, general secretary of the organization, said: “We mainly work with fire security and safety. Our main objective is to make everyone aware of this. Buildings and factories should be constructed in accordance with the national building code, Rajuk rules and fire-safety regulations.”
If buildings are constructed according to the law, accidents will be reduced, he said.
Bangla TribuneHe also said several changes have come after the Rana Plaza and Tazrin Garments accidents.
“Now many garment factories are safe and well-reputed abroad. Accidents are not happening like before. In this way, if rules are followed in the construction of buildings, incidents like Siddikbazar will not repeat.”
The deadly explosion in Dhaka's Gulistan area has claimed 22 lives so far.
The death toll may rise further since over 30 more critically injured patients are taking treatment at different hospitals.
