Minister: Govt working relentlessly to ensure safe food

Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in food under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he says

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Monday said the incumbent government is working relentlessly to ensure pollution-free environment and safe, balanced and nutritious food for the country's people. 

Although under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved self-sufficiency in food, he said, now safe and healthy food should be ensured.

To make the country's people healthy, happy and prosperous, everyone must work to ensure safe food, he added.

The environment minister was addressing a function titled Food safety in meat value chain at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University here, on the occasion of National Food Safety Day-2023.

He said it is a pleasure that the Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University is implementing a project on safe red meat. 

“They are working to make people aware of this, promote the idea of safe meat and ensure that we can get clean meat food as a source of perfect food,” Shahab Uddin said. 

From the production of meat, he said, it is very important to make people aware of buying animals, slaughtering animals, processing of meat and preservation. 

The minister expressed optimism that the nation would get safe food by the hands of students.

Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Prof Dr Md Shahidur Rashid Bhuiyan presided over the function.

Treasurer of the University Prof Dr Md Nazrul Islam; Chairman of Bangladesh Food Safety Authority Md Abdul Kayowm Sarker; Assistant Representative (Programme) of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Dr Nur Ahmed Khandaker and Team Leader and Proctor of the University Prof Dr Md Harun Ur Rashid were present, among others.
