Tofazzal Islam’s ‘Genome Editing’ launched at Ekushey Book Fair

Scientists hope the book, written in Bangla, will fill the gap in the study of genome editing in Bangladesh

Update : 01 Mar 2023, 11:57 AM

Prof Tofazzal Islam's book “Genome Editing” was launched at the Amar Ekushey Book Fair Monday.

Genome editing, a cutting-edge technique, is currently being used in agriculture and other fields, mostly to obtain genetic advantages and create crop and fish types with larger output potentials.

As there is no book written in Bangla exclusively on genome editing, there had long been a gap in the study of genome editing in the language, and Prof Tofazzal Islam, founding head of the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Institute at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, came forward to fill that gap.

Acclaimed scientist Prof Haseena Khan, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council chairman Dr Shaikh Mohammad Bokhtiar and other guests lauded the initiative.

They hoped the book will receive wide appreciation from science students, academics and general readers.

The book was published by Matrivasha Prokash.
