Police to work as per EC's directions during election, says IGP

Police are confident that they are capable of meeting any challenges of the future, he added

As the next national election will be held under the Election Commission, police are ready to perform their duties as per the instructions given by the commission, according to Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The IGP said this at the annual police gathering, sports competition and prize distribution ceremony organized by Chandpur District Police this afternoon.

Police receive training according to the existing laws of the country. From the knowledge and experience gained through training, they have tackled multiple challenges related to law and order in the past.

So, now police are confident that they are capable of meeting any challenges of the future, added the IGP.

IGP said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced an aim to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country by 2041. She also emphasized on building a smart Bangladesh. "We are working to build people-friendly smart police."

"We have achieved enviable success in combating militancy and terrorism. We have been able to successfully control militancy, terrorism due to the implementation of zero tolerance policy of the Prime Minister against militancy and terrorism."

"As the government has taken initiatives for technical skills, training at home and abroad, police's capacity has increased," he added.

In replying to another query, the IGP said that Bangladesh Police is performing its duties in the UN peacekeeping mission in the international arena with professionalism, sincerity and efficiency. We are ready to fulfil any responsibility in the international environment as the Bangladesh Police has demonstrated its excellence in maintaining peace and order in the country.

He said Bangladesh Police is doing well in the sports arena. They are winning gold and bronze medals at the national and international levels. In sports, police have come a long way.

"We are looking for talent in a variety of sports so that they can represent Bangladesh Police and the nation with distinction by winning at the national and international levels," added the IGP.

Later, he distributed the prizes among the winners of the competition.
