After the Dhaka University (DU) authorities removed the sculpture of Rabindranath Tagore that students had built to protest against banning books, the statue has returned to its place.
The DU students found several parts of the sculpture around the campus and managed to build it again next to the Raju Memorial Sculpture.
However, this time, the sculpture is different.
On one side of the sculpture, a poster reads: “Tomar pujor chholey tomay bhulei thaaki” which is a verse from a song written by Rabindranath Tagore. On the other side, another poster reads: “Nullify the Digital Security Act and stop all forms of censorship.

In this regard, DU Chhatra Union leader Shimul Kumbhkaar said they have built the sculpture again after finding parts of it all over the campus.
Regarding DU Proctor Professor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani's comment that the students have disrespected the poet, Kumbhkaar said the proctor himself disrespected the poet by breaking the sculpture.
Meanwhile, Golam Rabbani said: "We have informed our position on this matter. The intentions of those who brought the sculpture back, are not noble at all. When the book fair, the symbol of our Bangali nationhood, is going on, such activities are by no means desirable.”
DU authorities on Thursday removed the statue of Rabindranath Tagore.

The students built the symbolic sculpture on Tuesday to protest against the recent banning and censorship of books at the Amar Ekushe Book Fair.
The sculpture featured a taped-up Tagore holding a book with a nail pierced through it.
After the disappearance of the sculpture, aggrieved DU students displayed a banner that read: “Gum Hoye Gechen Rabindranath” (Rabindranath has disappeared), where the sculpture was built.
