Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday described President Md Abdul Hamid's autobiography as an "invaluable asset" for the nation through which the people can know many things about the country's history.
"He (Abdul Hamid) will no more be president (in future) as he is going to accomplish his responsibility as the president for two consecutive terms in accordance with the constitution. But, he (Abdul Hamid) has given us an invaluable asset (through his autobiography ‘Amar Jibonneeti Amar Rajneeti') to us. We can know many things from that part of his life that he sketched in the autobiography," she said.
The prime minister was addressing as the chief guest the publication ceremony of two books written by President M Abdul Hamid, --- one an autobiography titled "Amar Jibonneeti Amar Rajneeti" published by the Bangla Academy and another compilation of two parts of a book of the president's speeches titled "Swapno Joyer Ichchha" --- at the Darbar Hall of the President's official Bangabhaban residence here this evening.
The function was followed by a dinner and a musical soiree hosted by the President in honour of the parliament members.
The prime minister requested Abdul Hamid to write down the rest of his life, particularly the period he passed as the country's President when he will go on retirement.
President M Abdul Hamid, his wife and First Lady of Bangladesh Rashida Khanam, Speaker of the House Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and veteran parliamentarian and Awami League Leader Tofail Ahmed addressed the function.
Bangla Academy Director General poet Mohammad Nurul Huda gave the address of welcome while Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Prof Nehal Ahmed moderated the function.
The chief justice, cabinet members, parliamentarians, noted personalities of different fields, high military and civil officers were present on the occasion.
On her arrival at the Bangabhaban, the Prime Minister was earlier received by the President and his spouse.
