Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that a vested quarter is spreading rumours regarding errors in textbooks.
Those who are spreading these rumours themselves do not teach these textbooks and those who teach these books at schools do not utter a word, the minister said.
Dr Dipu Moni was speaking at a program in Chandpur Sadar on Friday.
She urged everyone to check for themselves whether these rumours are true and then comment on the issue.
She alleged that some pictures have been distorted and spread in social media which are not part of any text books.
Saying that there might be some errors in the text books, Dipu Moni said: “A total of 65 books were prepared for five classes. It's a big workload. There might be mistakes made by us. Some of the errors have already come to our notice.
Some of the mistakes that have surfaced recently in the textbooks have been there for eight-nine years and the ministry is trying to fix those errors, the minister said.
Mentioning that some people are now reading these books again and again, the minister said it is a good thing as they are helping the ministry find errors in the textbooks.
She called on everyone to shun the path of spreading lies.
On January 21, the minister alleged that the anti-liberation forces are spreading rumours about the new textbooks and also acknowledged the issue of errors in the textbooks.
"The textbooks of 9th and 10th grades are trial versions. We will work on the issues if there is any uncomfortable topic in those books as well," she had said.
On Thursday, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud gave directives to the deputy commissioners (DC) to take immediate steps to prevent the spread of rumours and fake information through unregistered portals and social platforms.
The minister disclosed this to reporters while replying to a query after exchanging views with the DCs on the last day of the three-day Deputy Commissioner Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
