Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed on Thursday said that although the military and civil administrations have different functions and tasks, their aims and objectives are the same.
“Both (military and civil administration) work for the welfare of the country and people. We are closely involved in some cases of security along with disaster management and implementation of development projects,” said the army chief.
He said: "I always give importance to the DC conference. Because, the deputy commissioners are the representatives of the government at the field level. That's why I personally attended this conference without sending a representative. I myself came to the DC conference last year too.”
The army chief said this to reporters after a meeting with the District Commissioners on the third day of the DC Conference at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
He also said that earlier there was a difference of understanding in some places due to mistakes, but now it does not happen anymore.
SM Shafiuddin said: "The DCs are the representatives of the government. Our scope of work with them is also extensive. As a result, we are doing security and development work for the country together, there is no problem.”
Praising some deputy commissioners and divisional commissioners, he said: "They specifically pointed out that the way the members of the military worked together and cooperated with the civil administration in disaster management is really commendable.
“I told them, I will convey your message to all the members of my army. I believe this message of yours will strengthen the morale of my members and encourage them,” he added.
When asked whether there was any discussion with the DCs about the role of the army in the 12th National Parliamentary elections, the army chief said: "There was no discussion with them in this regard."
