The second phase of the 56th Bishwa Ijtema, the second largest global congregation of Muslims, ended with “akheri munajat” (final prayers) on Sunday.
The final prayers started at 12:16pm and ended at 12:45pm.
In the half-hour prayer, hundreds of thousands of devout Muslims raised their hands and asked for forgiveness, self-purification and protection from trouble.
The bank of the Turag River was abuzz with chants of “Allahu Akber” by pious Muslims from home and abroad.

The first phase of the three-day Bishwa Ijtema ended on January 15.
After the 55th Bishwa Ijtema was held in 2020, the event remained suspended for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tabligh Jamaat has been organizing the congregation in Tongi since 1967. In 2011, it divided the Ijtema into two phases to accommodate a large number of attendees.
