The managing director of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), Taqsem A Khan, has said the media reports regarding his 14 homes in the US is inaccurate and that he has not earned a single taka by illegal means.
“There is a house in the name of my wife. It cannot be called a house either; it is an apartment,” he told reporters at his office in the Wasa building in Kawran Bazar on Tuesday.
Taqsem said his wife and children are well established in the US, so there is no problem in buying a house there.
"My earnings are clear to everyone. All my income information is clearly mentioned in my income tax document. Apart from this, I have not earned even a single taka by dishonest means.”
Regarding a report published on Monday that claimed Taqsem has 14 houses in US, he said: “There have been a lot of reports saying that I am corrupt. However, as I did not engage in any corruption, those accusations can be refuted. Now, the intentionally reported article is similarly unfounded.”
“I will take legal action against those who deliberately made false reports to defame me. It is not that I have moved from here to the US, but I have come from the US to work at Dhaka Wasa,” he added.
Stating that there was no need to buy any property or land in Dhaka, he said: “My wife inherited a large amount of real estate and land from her father. I did not need to buy anything in Dhaka because of this. My wife and kids are US citizens as well, and they both work well. By Allah's mercy, we are doing well on the entire salary I receive. I therefore do not require unethical or unscrupulous means of making a living.”
It should be mentioned that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) received two complaints regarding Taqsem A Khan's purchase of 14 homes in the United States.
The High Court on Monday inquired about the status of the ACC's investigation into these accusations.
The ACC was ordered by the court to notify the public within 15 days of this.
