The lowest temperature in Bangladesh was recorded at 8.4°C in Chuadanga on Saturday morning as a mild cold wave has been sweeping across the northern region for the last few days.
With this, the northern district recorded the lowest temperature in the country for two days in a row.
The district on Friday recorded the country's lowest temperature at 9°C.
The sun is not visible until noon in the district, and cold winds blow along with thick fog.
Cold weather is disrupting day-to-day life in the district and the poor are the worst sufferers.
In thick fog and winter, many people are trying to stop feeling cold by burning straws on the side of the road.
As the weather condition is worsening, the number of diarrhoea and pneumonia patients has increased in the health complexes. Most of them are children.
Chuadanga met office Observer Zahidul Haque said a mild cold wave is sweeping across Chuadanga. Severe winter is being felt due to the foggy environment and chilly wind.
The weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country. Moderate to thick fog may occur over the country from midnight till morning and it may continue at places till noon, according to a release of met office issued on Saturday morning.
A mild cold wave is sweeping over the districts of Naogaon, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jessore and Chuadanga and it may continue, it added.
Night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged and day temperatures may rise slightly across the country.
Due to the reduced difference between day and night temperatures, feelings of moderate to severe cold conditions are likely over the north, north-western and central parts of the country.
Besides, the temperature may fall in five days, according to the met office forecast.
