Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Friday said the country has progressed a lot due to the endless efforts and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"Wherever you look, the picture of development unfolds in the scene," he said in a function arranged for distributing winter clothes among the poor at Chhawla union parishad premises in Pirgachha upazila here as the chief guest.
The Minister said Rangpur is a winter-prone region where many people suffer from cold every year.
"Friday's distribution of winter clothes will help to mitigate sufferings of the cold-hit poor and distressed people to some extent," he said.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina often inquires about people of Rangpur region and she is very sincere in the development of the region.
"You can see a lot of development works going on in Rangpur," he said, adding that the country's commodity market is now stable under the efficient leadership of the Prime Minister.
"The government is working sincerely to ensure that the prices of daily commodities do not increase during the holy month of Ramadan," he added.
Later, the Minister distributed winter clothes to the poor and needy people of the area.
With Pirgachha Upazila Awami League President Taslim Uddin in the chair, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Shamsul Arefin, Upazila Awami League General Secretary Abdullah Al Mahmud Milan and local Awami League leaders attended the function.
Later, the minister also distributed winter clothes among the poor and distressed people of different unions of Pirgachha and Kawnia upazilas in the district.
