Update : 06 Jan 2023, 12:35 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage and offered prayers at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara of Gopalganj on Friday morning.

Accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana, the prime minister recited Surah Al-Fatihah and joined a prayer session seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and the other martyrs of the August 15, 1975 carnage.

The prime minister paid tributes to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his mausoleum.

Afterwards, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the great architect of independence, who was brutally killed by some disgruntled army men on the night of August 15, 1975, along with most of his family members.

Family members of the prime minister were present at that time.

Sheikh Hasina earlier in the morning reached Tungipara by road after crossing the Padma Bridge.

She is scheduled to visit Khulna for the first time in five years in the afternoon and later return to her Tungipara residence and spend the night there.
