The New Board of Directors of United Airways (BD) Limited, private sector Airline Company, will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the airline using an online platform Tuesday 11am.
The first ever AGM after 2015, will cover 7 years (2016-2022) to comply with the joint-stock company regulations.
“We received permission from the High Court to hold the AMG. As part of the efforts to revive operations of United Airways the AGM will be held,” Kazi Wahidul Alam, chairman of the board of directors, told the Dhaka Tribune on Monday afternoon.
Audited financial statements for 2016 to 2022 will be placed before the board and shareholders.
Future plans of the airlines will be discussed in the meeting, said Board Member Wing Commander (retd) ATM Nazrul Islam.
The AGM will receive, consider and adopt the Directors' and Auditors' Reports.
On November 15, 2022, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed that United Airways' debt to the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) be scrapped to attract new investors keen on turning the stricken airline into a cargo carrier.
United Airways was established in 2005 and later in 2010 was listed with Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).
In February 2016, the airline stopped flight operations without any prior announcement throwing thousands of general shareholders in uncertainty and despair.
In March 2021, the capital market regulator body Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) took the initiative to re-launch the country's first private airline United Airways.
Other members of the board of directors are M Sadiqul Islam, professor, department of finance, Dhaka University, Maskudur Rahman Sarkar,Wing Commander (retd) ATM Nazrul Islam, Dhaka University Prof Badruzzaman Bhuiyan, department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Muhammad Yunus, director of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries and Muhammad Shah Newaz.
