A mild cold wave sweeping across Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Nilphamari and Chuadanga districts may continue, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) Thursday.
Besides, the Met office recorded 8.5 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga, the lowest temperature in the country.
In Chuadanga, bone chilling cold has disrupted normal life in the district.
Daily wage earners and low income people have been hit hard by the cold as they could not venture out due to a lack of work, reported UNB.
Rakibul Hasan at Chuadanga Weather Observatory office, said a minimum temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius in the district was recorded Thursday morning. The temperature is likely to fall from today.
Dr Mahbubur Rahman Milon, a child specialist at Sadar hospital, said the number of patients in the outdoor department has been rising as people with cold related diseases are making their way to the hospital for treatment.
The hospital authorities are struggling to provide healthcare to 300-400 children every day, he said.
In Kurigram, severe cold disrupted normal life.
The met office has recorded 11.0 degrees Celsius in the district and the mercury may fall below 10 in the coming days, said Tuhin Mia, in-charge of Kurigram Rajarhat Agriculture Weather Observatory Office.
The situation is dire in Moulvibazar for the daily wage earners who could not get out of home due to dense fog and biting cold.
Vehicles were seen using headlines throughout the day.
The lowest temperature in the district was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius Thursday.
The BMD in its forecast said moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the country during late night to morning on Friday and the weather may remain dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky over the country
