Police on Thursday arrested Comilla South District Jubo Dal President Ashikur Rahman Mahmud Wasim and Vice President Zahirul Islam Zahir in front of BNP's temporary office in Comilla.
According to district BNP sources, a protest rally was heading to Comilla over police shooting Swecchasebak Dal leader Maqbul Hossain to death and multiple arrests of BNP leaders and activists.
When they were heading to Comilla, police picked up Wasim and Zahir in a car from the entrance of the party office.
Later, the activists carried forward for the protest march without the two leaders.
At that time, a police team led by Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ahmed Sanjur Morshed dispersed them.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Comilla Sadar Circle Kamran Hossain said: “We did not chase them. They fled after seeing us. Wasim and Zahir have been arrested as there was charges against them.”
