Transport workers have called a strike in Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban and North Chittagong since Thursday morning.
Chittagong District Road Transport Owners' Association Secretary General Manjurul Alam Manju said: “On December 4, the prime minister's public meeting was held in Chittagong. There were sufficient buses provided from three hill districts and North Chittagong. We didn't say anything about the payment of the bus fare at that time.”
“Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's public meeting was also held in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday. At least 50 buses have been requisitioned by the police. Not only that, the police also collected huge sums of money by threatening to requisition various buses,” he added.
He also said: "More than half a hundred requisitioned buses from Chittagong for Cox's Bazar are given only 30 litres of oil.”
After contacting with the concerned authorities, they paid another Tk5,000 to each driver, he added.
“When the buses were coming from Cox's Bazar to Chittagong, the OC of Eidgaon police station stopped the vehicles and confiscated the money. Because of this, the transport workers are dissatisfied and refrain from driving,” he added.
