The opposition BNP has decided not to hold the Dhaka divisional rally scheduled for December 10 at Suhrawardy Udyan as per the government's proposal.

Several members of the standing committee said that the decision was taken in a two-hour virtual meeting with the party's Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday night.

Sources told the Bangla Tribune that the matter of not holding its biggest rally at Suhrawardy Udyan was finalized on Monday.

None of the members agreed to this proposal of the government. However, the standing committee agreed to continue discussions with the government on a third venue, they added.

Meanwhile, a member of the standing committee told the Bangla Tribune on Tuesday that it was BNP's final decision to not hold the December 10 rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.

“We have already proposed a third venue to the government. They will now take it into account. However, our final decision is we want to hold the rally at Naya Paltan,” they added.

One of the top leaders of BNP also told Bangla Tribune that they have given another option to the government. “If they do not consider it, we will hold our rally at Naya Paltan. In that case, if there is obstruction by the police, that is also a minus point for the government.”

As part of the move to continue the pace of its ongoing movement, the BNP on September 27 announced a series of public rallies in 10 divisional cities.

The party will conclude the divisional programs by holding its last rally in Dhaka on December 10.
