A youth went missing after falling from a moving launch in Dhaleswari-Meghna river estuary near Munshiganj.
The deceased is Hazrat Ali, son of Mortuz Ali of Gabtali Newbazar area of Fatulla police station in Narayanganj.
The incident took place in Char Kishoreganj area of Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj around 1pm on Monday.
The launch was reportedly going to Matlab from Narayanganj.
Two teams of Narayanganj and Munshiganj fire service are working to search for the missing youth.
Ghazaria Naval Police Inspector Ijaz Ahmed said: “At around 12pm, seven youths boarded the launch ML Hasib, which was going to Matlab from Narayanganj. On the way, a young man fell from the launch and disappeared.”
He further said: “We came to know from the staff of the launch that seven friends were sitting in front of the launch and consuming drugs. At that time, suddenly one fell from the launch. I informed Narayanganj and Munshiganj fire service to rescue him. A team of our police is carrying out the rescue operation.”
Narayanganj naval fire service diver Abdur Rahim Howladar said: “One of our teams went to the spot with a speedboat after hearing the incident.”
