The Armed Forces Day will be celebrated through various programs on Monday amid festivity and enthusiasm.
The programs will mark the establishment of the forces during the 1971 Liberation War, said a press release issued by Inter Service Public Relation Directorate (ISPR) on Sunday.
The day will begin with a special prayer in the morning, wishing for Bangladesh's welfare, prosperity, and progress at all mosques in all the cantonments and naval and air force bases throughout the country.
President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages, greeting members of the forces on the occasion of Armed Forces Day.
Respecting the memories of the members of the armed forces who sacrificed their lives in the great Liberation War of 1971, the president and prime minister will lay wreaths at Dhaka Cantonment's Shikha Anirban (the Eternal Flame) on Monday morning.
After that, Bangladesh Army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Navy chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal, and Air Force chief Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan will lay wreaths on behalf of their respective forces.
Later, chiefs of the three services will pay a courtesy call on the president at the Bangabhaban and the prime minister at Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment.
The prime minister and defence minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will also accord a reception to family members of the “Bir Sreshthas” and a selected number of gallantry award-winning 1971 veterans and their family members at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment.
The prime minister will also distribute peace awards for 2021-22 among four army members, two navy members, and two air force members.
