The minister said that the farmers would do a thriving business as prices were also in their favor

Rice farmers in the northern region of the country are harvesting a bumper Aman crop this year, and as a result, there is no chance of the country experiencing a famine.

Apart from Aman paddy, farmers will also harvest IRRI in the coming season, Food Minister Sadhan Majumder said while visiting rice fields at Mahadebpur Upazila in Naogaon on Saturday.

The minister said that the farmers would do a thriving business as prices were also in their favor.

He called on everyone not to create any artificial rice crisis in the country.

The minister said that the government would purchase paddy at Tk28 per kg from farmers this year in order to support them.

Owing to continuing support from the administration, no syndicate would be able to penetrate the system and hike prices, the minister added.

He added that the administration had been tasked with monitoring the market.

Sadhan Majumder said that the country's silos were currently storing a record amount of rice. Considering the need of the hour, the government might take a decision to increase its stock of rice.
