A Bangladeshi youth has received the Prince Claus Seed Awards 2022, from the Prince Claus Fund of the Netherlands.
The youth, Adit Dewan, on Thursday, posted a status on their Facebook profile, saying: "I am happy to share the news that I have been awarded Prince Claus Seed Awards 2022 by the Prince Claus Fund, Netherlands. I am thankful to them and hope this award will help me to explore and expand my filmmaking and artistic career.”
Adit said he had won the award "for my artworks (films) and for my involvement with the Hill Film Festival".
Adit Dewan is a Bangladesh-based filmmaker and programmer. He holds a BS and MS in Zoology from Dhaka University, and an MA in Film Studies from Jadavpur University, India.
As part of the Chakma indigenous community, his filmmaking and curatorial journey is focused on the indigenous themes and people of the Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT), reads the website.
In 2014, he co-founded the Hill Film Festival which highlights films that are made in the indigenous languages of the CHT and other parts of the country. Adit is the current director of the festival and has directed four short films and one feature film.
Since its establishment, The Prince Claus Awards support artists and cultural practitioners in countries where culture is under pressure.
