The waterway communication with Hatia of Noakhali is closed across the country as the river is rough under the influence of the deep depression created in the Bay of Bengal.
The upazila administration said that this decision will remain in force from 3pm on Sunday until further notice.
According to Mohammad Salim Hossain, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Hatia upazila: "Transportation by boat has been banned across the country with Hatia for the safety of people's lives and property."
According to the officer-in-charge of Noakhali Meteorological Office Rafiqul Islam: "Light rain has been pouring in various areas of the district since Sunday morning as a result of low pressure. By Sunday night, the deep depression may intensify into a cyclone. On Monday evening, it might regain its momentum and head for the shore. By Tuesday morning, cyclone Sitrang is expected to reach the coast.
About 401 shelters have been prepared throughout the district to deal with Cyclone Sitrang, according to district administration sources.
Additionally, 8,380 volunteers have been waiting at the coast.
