Saturday night marked the second time in one and a half months that theft occurred at Jagannath University (JnU).
Saidur Rahman Roni, the deputy registrar in charge of the university's security wing, confirmed the matter to Bangla Tribune.
He claimed that the thief displayed a knife to the security guards and ran away leaving a sack with stolen items.
The deputy registrar continued: "We think the criminal entered the closed campus with the intention of stealing from the notion that there was no one there."
Speaking with the relevant parties, it was learned that the door to the cupboard containing the university's transportation department's components were damaged. On the side of the office, there are two rotating CCTV cameras. One was discovered hanging and open. In addition, the side grill and lock of the common room are damaged.
Transport Pool Administrator Dr Siddharth Bhowmik said that he found the cupboard of car parts in his office broken.
University proctor, Professor Dr Mustafa Kamal said: “Necessary measures will be taken after investigating the incident.”
Earlier, on August 20, the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell's glass door was damaged and taken. A three-member investigating committee was formed for that incident, and a case was filed. But the individual who took it hasn't been identified yet. The CCTV footage of the incident was also not available due to mechanical failure.
