Three bodies of Rohingya women were recovered after a trawler carrying a group of people capsized in the Bay of Bengal while they were illegally trying to leave for Malaysia on Tuesday.
The bodies were recovered from Shilkhali area of Baharchara of Teknaf around 12:30pm.
Besides, Bangladesh Coast Guard on Tuesday rescued some 45 people, including eight Rohingya women, 33 men and four Bangladeshis.
They were going to Malaysia on a trawler with help of some middlemen, but the vessel sank near the Baharchara area of the sea due to strong current, said Officer-in-Charge Noor Mohammad of Teknaf's Baharchara police outpost.
Lt Commander Ashiq Ahmed of Teknaf station Bangladesh Coast Guard said: “We are still carrying out rescue operations to find out how many people went missing.”
Some of the rescued Rohingya said there were about 85 passengers in the trawler, and 65 of them are Rohingya refugees, reports Bangla Tribune.
