Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the members of the police are not only working to ensure security in Bangladesh but they are also involved in humanitarian work.
He said: “Bangladesh Police is working for the peace which has spread throughout the country. There is a lot of difference between the current police force and the one from 15-20 years ago.”
The minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a function at Gazipur Police Lines on Friday.
“Gazipur became the centre of economic activity as a lot of factories and industries developed here in the past few years. To ensure the security of the industrial town, we appointed 82,583 policemen in new posts from 2008-2022,” he added.
He added: “Whenever anyone in danger dialed the emergency helpline 999, the police reached the spot immediately. We are doing these to serve the people of Bangladesh.”
The minister also said: “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke about women empowerment and gave us instructions to recruit women in the police force. We have followed her command and women are doing well in the force.”
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam presided over the program.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russel, Senior Secretary of Home and Public Security Department Akhter Hossain, IGP Benazir Ahmed, and others were also present.
