Hilsa fishing banned for 22 days from October 7

The ban is imposed every year by the government to safeguard egg-bearing fishes from fishermen in an attempt to protect the fish population

The government has announced a ban on the collection, transportation, purchase, sale, storage and exchange of hilsa across Bangladesh for 22 days to ensure the uninterrupted breeding of hilsa. 

A notification signed by Md Iftekhar Hossain, public relations officer at The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, made the announcement on Thursday.

According to the notification, the acquisition, transit, purchase, sale, storage and exchange of hilsa will be banned across the country for 22 days from October 7 to October 28 for the safe breeding of hilsa.

The ban is imposed every year by the government to safeguard egg-bearing fishes from fishermen in an attempt to protect the fish population.
