State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku on Friday stressed the need to improve government fish farms and expand the use of modern technology to boost fish production in the country with ensuring quality.
He made the remarks while visiting the government fish seed production farm at Atpukurpar area in Sadar upazila of Tangail.
Tuku said the production capacity of government fish farms must be increased to further develop the country's fisheries sector. Fish seed production can be increased through improved management, the use of modern technology and proper maintenance of existing infrastructure. For this, the officials concerned must work in coordination.
He further said that alongside increasing fish production, due importance must also be given to maintaining environmental balance and saving electricity. Expanding the use of environment-friendly technologies such as solar power at government farms would make production activities more sustainable.
During the inspection, the state minister inaugurated a 20-kilowatt solar power system at the farm. Later, he planted trees on the farm premises.
