Korean envoy attends inauguration of BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital

Korea decides to increase funds to help Bangladesh develop health and other sectors

Korean High Commissioner to Bangladesh Lee Jang-keun attended the inauguration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Super Specialized Hospital on Wednesday.

He congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the achievement and mentioned Korea as proud of being a close partner of Bangladesh throughout its journey as a fastest growing county in a media report published on Wednesday.

Korea decided to significantly increase the volume of its concessional loan, in the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), from $700 million to $3 billion for the next five year, he added.

Moreover, Korea is kin to help Bangladesh to develop its health sector further, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

Lee Jang-keun thanked Health Minister Zahid Maleque and Professor Md Sharfuddin, vice-chancellor of BSMMU, including Korean companies such as Hyundai Development Company (HDC), Samsung and others for their efforts and support to complete the project on time.

Korea and Bangladesh will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2023.
