More showers likely across Bangladesh in 24 hours

More rains are likely to drench Bangladesh in 24 hours commencing 9am on Monday, said the weather department.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at most places over Khulna, Barisal, Dhaka and Chittagong divisions and at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country,” said a Met Office bulletin.

Rainfall activity may decrease in the next three days.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.

The weather office recorded the highest 71 mm rainfall in Patuakhali of Barisal division in 24 hours till 6am on Monday.

Meanwhile, Dhaka recorded 13 mm of rainfall during this period.

The highest temperature was recorded at 34.2°C in Sreemangal of Sylhet division, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 23.8°C in Cox’s Bazar of Chittagong division.

Meanwhile, the depression over coastal Odisha and adjoining Northwest Bay and West central Bay moved west northwestwards further over inland and lay centered over South Madhya Pradesh and adjoining area at 6am on Monday as a land depression.

It is likely to move west-northwestwards further and weaken gradually, it added.

The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, the center of the land depression, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over North Bay, said the bulletin.
