Update : 06 Sep 2022, 08:26 PM

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has fixed the fare for the upcoming metro rail at Tk5 per kilometre, with a minimum fare of Tk20.

A passenger will have to pay Tk100 to travel the full length of the route from Uttara to Kamalapur.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the fare rate while inaugurating the Metro Rail Information and Exhibition Centre at the Uttara depot on Tuesday.

The metro rail fare is around double the fare for buses in Dhaka, which is Tk2.45 per km. Students also receive a 50% discount on bus fares on showing their identity cards.

The minimum fare for a minibus is Tk8 and for a bus Tk10.

Obaidul Quader said metro rail passengers will get special benefits for using weekly, monthly and family cards. Furthermore, injured freedom fighters can travel on the metro rail free of charge, and people with special needs will receive special concessions on every journey.

People can visit the metro rail information centre to learn about the transport system and how to use it ahead of the opening of the service in December this year. Freedom fighters, people with special needs, and students can visit the information centre free of cost by showing their identity cards, while others have to pay a Tk10 entry fee.

Batches of 50 visitors will be allowed to enter the centre at 10am, 11am, 12noon, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm everyday except Sunday.

The DMTCL has decided to operate the electric trains every 10 minutes for 16 hours every day once the service is inaugurated.  Ten sets of trains will run between Uttara and Agargaon from 6am till midnight.

The frequency of trains will be increased if demand rises. If enough passengers seek the service, the gap between trains will be lessened to seven minutes.

According to the DMTCL, the overall progress of MRT Line-6 is 82.46%. The progress of work on the Uttara-Agargaon route (first phase) is 94.14%, Agargaon to Motijheel (second phase) is 83.08% and the overall progress of electrical and mechanical work is 83.34%.
