Bangladesh will discuss the possibilities of purchasing fuel oil from India during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to India, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said on Sunday.
He was speaking to reporters at a press conference ahead of the prime minister's visit to India.
When asked if there is any plan to buy Russian oil through India, the state minister said that there was no plan at the moment in this regard.
"We are importing electricity from India. Besides, a large industrial group in India is setting up a power plant in Bangladesh. We can take India's oil instead of Russia’s.
A pipeline from the northeast of India has been made through Parbatipur. “There can be a lot of cooperation in the field of energy which we will learn more about this after the discussion,” he added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to pay a state visit to India from September 5 to 8 at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
The Bangladesh delegation includes the foreign minister, liberation war affairs minister, commerce minister, railways minister, PM's economic affairs adviser, PM's private industry and investment adviser, state minister for foreign affairs, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources, state minister for information and communication technology, the ministry of posts, telecommunications and information technology and state minister for water resources.
