Police on Monday detained a Bangladeshi couple possessing some ₹8,52,090 from their residence in Sylhet’s Jaintapur border area.
Ali Ahmed, 35, and his wife Sabirun Nahar, 30, were arrested at around 9pm from Kamlabari village of the district, said Jaintapur model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Dostogir Ahmed.
Some Tk1,61,770 and 30 cheque books of Uttara Bank were also seized from their possession, the OC added.
The detainees had been living in that rented house for some years. Ali was recently fired from Uttara Bank.
A case under the Special Powers Act will be filed against them, OC Ahmed said.
