Four female workers were killed in a landslide at Finlay Tea’s Lakkhichara tea estate in Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar on Friday morning.
The deceased are Sukantala Bhumij, 40, Hira Bhumij, 30, Radha Mahali, 25, and Puni Bhumij, 25.
Sreemangal police station OC Shamim ur Rashid Talukdar confirmed the matter.
Four workers had been brought in dead to Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex, said Dr Redwan Ahsanullah of the emergency department of the hospital. Another injured worker was still hospitalized, he added.
Sadek Ahmed, general manager of the tea garden, said the incident took place when the workers went to fetch soil from the hills of the estate to coat their homes with mud.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sreemangal Circle) Shahidul Haque Munshi said he would visit the spot and give details about the incident later.
