A handful of army renegades assassinated Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to stop the progress of Bangladesh, Jessore-3 MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed has said.
He made the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting and doa mahfil on the occasion of National Mourning Day at Chanchra Bazar under Chanchra union in Jessore Sadar on Wednesday evening.
“Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman devoted his entire life to Bangladesh and the Bengali nation. He trampled on the coveted opportunity of becoming Pakistan’s prime minister for the sake of the independence of Bangladesh,” the Awami League leader said.
“Conspiracy began when Bangabandhu started the rebuilding process of war-torn Bangladesh as the friends of Pakistan wanted to stop the progress of Bangladesh. Following this, he along with his family were assassinated by army renegades in the early hours of August 15, 1975,” he added.
The MP criticized the regimes from 1975 to 1996, as they tried to turn the country into a new Pakistan. “It was not possible to take Bangabandhu’s name anywhere at that time.”
He said: “We are lucky that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana survived the 1975 massacre as they were abroad at that time.
“Sheikh Hasina established a pro-liberation government in Bangladesh by taking various creative projects in 1996. She was later ousted from power in 2001 by an international conspiracy. After that Bangladesh became a sanctuary of terrorism,” he said.
“Still BNP leaders are working to destabilize the country and create a new Pakistan. But we have to be aware and stop this conspiracy by turning our grief of losing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib into our strength,” Kazi Nabil continued.
The MP, also the chief guest of the program, said that Bangladesh became a role model of development for the world under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, he said that the price of daily commodities in the international market has increased due to inflation.
The MP urged the countrymen to be patient and keep faith in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He called for unity among the local Awami League leaders ahead of the next election, adding: “If we are united, we will be able to gift all the six seats of Jessore to the Awami League.”
Highlighting various development activities of the local Chanchra union, he said: “The people of this union are like my family. My father Kazi Shahid Ahmed visited here several times.”
He urged the people of the union to cast their vote for Awami League in the next election as well to continue the development of the area.
The MP distributed food among the common people at the end of the meeting.
Jessore Sadar Upazila Chairman Mostafa Farid Ahmed Chowdhury, former secretary of Sadar Upazila Awami League Mehdi Hasan Mintu also spoke at the event while District Workers’ Welfare and Development Affairs Secretary Salim Reza Pannu presided over the meeting.
