Minister: Government wants to enact implementable laws

Unrealistic laws would only remain in books as they are ineffective in reality, says Anisul Huq

Update : 11 Aug 2022, 09:25 PM

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Thursday said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to enact such laws which can be implemented in society.

"If we put any unrealistic law on the shoulder of the society, it would only remain inside the law books and not have any use to us in real life. We would bring all the changes in the concerned laws, which are necessary for the welfare of the children," he said.

The law minister made the statements as the chief guest at a workshop on the review of the Bangladesh laws for the protection of children's rights, at a Dhaka hotel.

"The children are our future. We've to give them the opportunities to grow up in a healthy and safe environment. There should be no difference between street children and one from the upper-class society,” he said.

“The government is trying its utmost to eliminate the discrimination among children. We're also formulating a law named anti-discrimination," Anisul added.

The law minister also called for united efforts for child protection and establishing their rights, adding: "We've to raise social awareness as well."

Presided over by World Vision Bangladesh Director (advocacy) Tony Michael Gomes, the function was also addressed, among others, by Shamsul Huq Tuku, Barrister Shamim Haider Patwari, Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar and Rasheda K Chowdhury.
