Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday urged the countrymen to use electricity more economically.
He made the remarks while responding questions from reporters at a briefing on contemporary issues at his residence in Chittagong.
“Many developed countries are using electricity economically. The prime minister has also instructed us to save electricity,” he said.
He also said: “People in many developed countries like Australia are experiencing severe load shedding for 15 to 18 hours a day. The Australian government called upon them to save electricity for the sake of the country.”
Mentioning BNP, he said, those who could not provide electricity to people, has no right to talk about the current situation of electricity.
He also urged the critics to look at the global situation, adding: “The entire world is facing fuel crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war.”
Earlier, the minister held a meeting with the representatives of the authorities solving the waterlogging problem in Chittagong.
Responding to a question from reporters about waterlogging in the port city, Hasan said the premier has allocated around Tk11,000 crore for three projects to alleviate decade-old waterlogging in Chittagong.
“Now, it is the responsibility of those who are implementing these projects to utilize the money in a coordinated manner,” he added.
