The government development organization Pathway has sacrificed a cow worth Tk2 lakh for transgenders marking this year’s Eid-ul-Azha.
The cow was sacrificed at Pathway’s head office in the capital's Mirpur-10 area on Monday morning with the presence of nearly 500 transgenders, says a press release.
Later, the transgenders distributed the beef among themselves.
Pathway Executive Director Md Shahin said the organization took this initiative to spread the joy of Eid among transgenders.
“This initiative will help the disadvantaged transgender community to mix with the mainstream of society,” he added.
Shahin further said: "We expect the rich and capable people of the society to be by our side in such initiatives."
Anwari, the leader of the transgender community in Mirpur, said: "No one has ever taken such an initiative before. Today is a really happy day for us. Pathway has doubled the joy of Eid for us.”
