Bangabandhu Bridge, also known as the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, has achieved a new daily toll collection record.

According to the bridge authorities, 25,113 north-bound vehicles crossed the bridge and a toll of around Tk1.74 crore was collected.

On the other hand, 18,482 Dhaka-bound vehicles crossed the bridge and a toll of Tk1.62 crore was collected.

Earlier, on April 29, Tk3.20 crore was collected in tolls – also during the Eid holidays.

Ahsan Masud Bappi, executive engineer of the Bangabandhu Bridge site office, said: “The bridge authorities achieved this record after 43,595 vehicles crossed the bridge. Toll was collected from 11 booths on the east side of Bangabandhu Bridge and nine on the west side.”

The Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway is the second-largest one in the country.

It is the only means of communication by road between northern districts and Dhaka. Vehicles from at least 23 to 24 districts ply this road daily.

The bridge authorities have been collecting tolls since it was opened in 1998.
