PM Hasina urges all to stop decorative light use to save electricity

Frequent power cuts across the country are now a daily occurrence

Update : 06 Jul 2022, 03:18 PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the citizens of the country to refrain from using decorative lights at social events, community centres and businesses to conserve electricity.

The prime minister’s press wing informed the media about her appeal in a statement on Wednesday.

Her call came in light of the recent loadshedding situation in the country, caused by a fuel crisis, as Bangladesh is importing less LNG from the international spot-buying market as prices have soared.

The import of LNG came down to almost half recently as the price has gone up by more than $13 per unit, mainly due to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Frequent power cuts across the country are now a daily occurrence, and the situation may exacerbate in the coming days.

The outages are disrupting industrial production, while the public is suffering in darkness because of the scorching heat.
